Many artists tackle the topics of heartbreak, longing and acceptance, but Grace Joyner brings a captivating and unwavering determination to the process. Her new album Maybe Sometimes in C. (out now on Hearts + Plugs) is a lyrically charged and skillfully composed story of personal growth.
The record opens with “Maybe Sometimes,” a haunting a cappella plea for unrequited love and progresses into organ-fueled musings on a relationship gone wrong on “Dreams.” The soundtrack to her journey ends with “Call You Up,” an anthem for moving forward founded on synth beats and snare hits.
