OFFICIAL STATESIDE RECORD STORE DAY PRESS CONFERENCE TO ANNOUNCE TITLES FOR 2015 EVENT SLATED FOR TUESDAY, MARCH 10TH AT BROOKLYN’S ROUGH TRADE STORE

NOTED PANELISTS SET TO ATTEND!

As the news of the upcoming Record Store Day— slated for Saturday, April 18th this year—circulates, not to mention its inauguration of Dave Grohl as its Ambassador, the dangling question remains, “Who’s releasing what?”

That and other queries are set to be addressed on Tuesday, March 10th at 1:00pm a PRESS CONFERENCE at Rough Trade Records at 64 N. 9th St, in Brooklyn.

At press time, we can tell you that we’re expecting a staggering 400 RSD releases this April, and 254 of those will come from indie record labels- giving the indie labels a 60% edge this year. Much more to come, though.

Panelists currently scheduled to appear are as follows…

Annie Clark/St. Vincent

Annie Clark, who records and performs under the name, St. Vincent began her music career as a member of The Polyphonic Spree and was also part of Sufjan Stevens‘s touring band before forming her own band in 2006. Her debut album was Marry Me (2007), followed by Actor (2009) and Strange Mercy (2011). She released a collaborative album with David Byrne in 2012 titled Love This Giant. Her fourth solo album, self-titled St. Vincent, was released on February 24, 2014. In February 2015, St. Vincent won her first Grammy in the Best Alternative Album category for St. Vincent.

St. Vincent has supported record stores with special Record Store Day releases over the past few years.

Kate Pierson

Kate is a celebrated vocalist, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and, of course, one of the lead singers and founding members of The B-52’s. Kate’s new (debut) solo album GUITARS & MICROPHONES, released last month on Kobalt/Lazy Meadow and featuring material co-written by Sia Furler, (who also is the album’s executive producer) will enjoy a special Record Store Day vinyl release.

Pierson is particularly excited about having a special RSD title ready to go for the Big Day She says, “The B-52s really got their start when Danny Beard of Wax and Fax, an indie record store in Atlanta, GA. put out our single “Rock Lobster/52 Girls” in 1978.Several music formats later, and everyone is still clamoring for vinyl. New record stores are popping up all over the place, so I’m excited to release my 7-inch remix of  “You Better Not Sting The Bee” on vinyl. I just visited one of our local record stores yesterday and seeing all the fab old record sleeves displayed on the walls, I was reminded that  ‘vinyl is eternal’ “

Kozmo Vinyl

A longtime friend (and sometime manager) of the Clash, whom he can be heard introducing the band on their Live at Shea Stadium album, Kozmo Vinyl has been a seminal figure in the punk rock scene. Since the 90s, he’s developed into a visual artist and “cultural curator”, invited to participate in the 2010 London Calling exhibition in tribute to Ray Lowry at the Generation Gallery and posting two one-man shows in England. He served as co-curator for the late Ian Dury’s first art exhibition at The Royal College of Art London, and his debut US exhibition was presented by Atlanta’s VINSONART  For Record Store Day 2015, Kozmo Vinyl has created a special postcard and poster set.

Todd Barry

A little known fact about well-known comic/musician/actor Todd Barry is that before his stand-up stint, he was the drummer in the indie rock band The Chant (mid-eighties), but arguably even cooler, is that Barry clocked some time on the front lines working at a record store. Fast forward a few years we have found that even with an illustrious on screen profile, Barry’s love of music has not waned. He was featured on Jerry Seinfeld’s well-received Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee, he released a 2012 album and special Super Crazy on Comedy Central Records and had a recurring role as a fictionalized version of himself in the second season of the live-action Adult Swimseries Delocated. He also has a recurring role playing himself in FX’s Louie, but his list of credits is a laundry list of much-loved fringe comedy shows including Flight Of The Conchords, Dr. Katz, Home Movies, Wonder Showzen, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Squidbillies and Shorties Watching Shorties- and there were others, including a role in Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler.

Sam Calagione

Sam is the founder of Dogfish Head Craft Beer, who, we are proud to say, is the Official Beer of Record Store Day. He got the brewing bug back in the early 1990s while working at a bar in New York City. After a number of homebrew batches, he put his English degree to the test while writing Dogfish Head’s business plan. Sam hosted Brew Masters on The Discovery Channel, showcasing both the Dogfish Head Brewery and his trips around the world to uncover unique brewing techniques, ingredients and recipes. Dogfish Head has released a Music Series of beers, which have included beers inspired by or created with Robert Johnson, Guided By Voices, Pearl Jam, Deltron 3030, the Grateful Dead and more. Record Store Day 2015 will see the vinyl release of the special compilation Sam co-curated, Music To Drink Beer To.

Record Store Day Co-Founders Michael Kurtz, Eric Levin and Carrie Colliton will also be in attendance.
