My band Recess Monkey is a Seattle trio known nationally for our unique spin on “family music.” We’ve made eleven albums and played hundreds of shows over the past 9 years.

MAKE & MODEL

1980 Moog Source Monophonic Synthesizer

WHAT IT MEANS TO YOU

I got it on eBay five years ago and have played it on every album since. It’s the perfect balance of high tech and a weird, ancient artifact. The thing could cook bacon when it gets warmed up all of the way.

WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE

Anything you want it to – two oscillators with lots of customization, I feel like I’ve only scratched the surface. This is the keyboard your Casio SK-1 dreams about at night.

SPECIAL FEATURES

This was the first MOOG with memory; it functions EXACTLY like a Speak and Spell, right down to the plastic blister controls.

CAN BE HEARD ON

It’s all over our brand new album Wired, usually in ten to twenty stacks of overdubs.
