Performer is super excited to be premiering the new video for The March Divide’s “I Told You So.” Watch it above and hear what Jared Putnam has to say below. And as always, feel free to let us know what you think in the comments section. Enjoy!
“I’m finally at a stage in my life where I don’t have to bleed all over the page to write a song,” says Jared Putnam of the San Antonio-based The March Divide.
As Emo bands reunite left and right, playing their old songs for nostalgia’s sake, Putnam is unapologetically wearing his past on his sleeve, still writing the types of songs he was performing with his late-90’s road-warrior band The Conversation, but from an adult perspective.
“I haven’t been taking everything so seriously, which really helped me to open up,” he says of the tunes on Billions, his latest album as The March Divide and the fourth release in under two years for the prolific songwriter.
Fans of The March Divide will find Putnam’s latest batch of songs less earnest, but still completely clever. This is evident on “I Told You So,” an uproarious “fuck you” tune about the personal motivation that comes from facing opposition.
“This video begins at the end of the story,” Putnam explains of the just-completed music video for the song. “While it stands on its own, its going to leave everyone pretty intrigued and curious as to where it’s going,” he says of the clip, shot on location Duluth, Minnesota’s Jay Cooke State Park.
“This is the third video that we’ve done with Doubt Films,” Putnam continues. “I’ve really enjoyed working with them, and the creativity that they bring to the table. I love that, with everything they do, they’re able to make it their own. It brings a real sincerity to the work.”
