Louisville-based My Morning Jacket returns to their hometown for two epic performances at Iroquois Amphitheater on May 12 & 13 with openers Twin Limb.

It was is the echo chamber of MMJ’s salad days, retaining all of the unrefined, crisp guitar and crooning James charm that further pushed them to international success. It was also the debut of drummer Patrick Hallahan, who is now a permanent fixture in their long line of lineup changes. But between their rigorous touring schedule at the time, the recorded outcome of My Morning Jacket’s 2003 album It Still Moves wasn’t quite realized until now.

May 4th marked the one-year of My Morning Jacket’s visual album, The Waterfall, but this season the band makes amends to the past, with the remastered reissuing of their third studio album to commemorate 15 years together and rightfully complete what Jim James said he had always felt was “unfinished.”

ATO Records releases the 2-disc vinyl and CD bundles on May 27, but the wait isn’t so long for those attending the two sold-out gigs at Iroquois Amphitheater this week. One of MMJ’s last hometown shows at the Louisville Palace surprised with a swoon-worthy guest performance with Erykah Badu. And following up on Jazz Fest, where they ended the set with a pair of Prince covers, should we expect something magical?

One cannot prepare in this situation, but I managed to gather suggestions from experienced MMJ fans. What should you bring to an evening with James, Blankenship, Hallahan, Koster, & Breomel? Listed in no order of importance, these were the answers I received.

a fresh pair of panties
a water bottle to wet your t-shirt
money for tour-exclusive vinyl
a slice of pie to give Jim James
umbrella or waterproof clothing
warm pants straight out of the dyer
a head full of acid?
headphones/earplugs for the kiddos
your cat
possibly a snack
knowledge of My Morning Jacket
cash tips for your drink servers
a dry pair of panties
