Venue Profile

Dover Brick House

From the outside, The Dover Brick House looks like one of those historic buildings converted into a sleepy museum displaying New Hampshire's finest breed of stuffed moose. However, the inside of the Brick House is anything but stuffy or stiff. The venue provides a great space for the two to three bands the venue hosts.

The downstairs area includes a bar, restaurant, lounge and game area. The owners promise that the food is as good as the music, so make sure to go on a night a good band is performing.

Their motto appears to be "in it for the music," and judging from the sign that has this slogan engraved in it hanging from the door and the layout of the space, the Dover Brick House really does look like they stick by their word. The upstairs stage area provides a generous space for the performers as well as the crowd. It can hold over 100 people, and the owners claim to have one of the largest stages in the seacoast area. The stage is set up high, so that the entire crowd has the ability to see the performance, giving the place a large-venue quality with the personal feel of a neighborhood bar. The personal qualities are proven on their MySpace page, where Brick House frequenters post things like "missed you this weekend," and "your staff was excellent to work with."

The Dover Brick House plays home to many different bands and styles of music, from indie rock, to young bands on the rise, rap and hip-hop artists, tribute bands and many others. And if you are still unsure of what kind of music they look for, they choose a "song of the week" on their website.

Bourbon's, a bar in Portsmouth, NH, seems to love to play with the sounds of the stereotypical New England accent on their website as the spell out "baahhhhhhr" and add comments like "a wicked good band" to listings on their MySpace page. However, that grating accent isn't the only sound piping from within. The venue has released their summer lineup featuring The Alpacas, who are performing on July 19, have a catchy toe tapping sound in which all of the band members contribute vocally and are led by magnetic singer Jackie Dailey.

The Divorced will be playing on July 3. Their hardcore looks, tattoos and South Boston upbringing are much more intimidating then their soft and dreamy songs. Their debut album is expected for released this summer.
