National Marketing Assistant Internship

Performer Magazine is seeking a Marketing Assistant for Fall/Winter Semester 2006.

Deadlines: Fall/Winter Semester 2006 = September 15th 2006
Number of Positions: 2
Salary: This is an unpaid position.

Duties: Assist the Sales Departments with marketing, promotions, client services, and PR. Developing brand recognition in minor markets throughout the U.S. You will be working closely with our publisher and regional sales staff. No photocopying, going to the Post Office or getting coffee.

Requirements: A min. of 6 hrs per week in Marketing/Sales Department (Somerville Office) (Max. of 40hrs/wk).

Qualifications: Current Undergraduates in Liberal Arts, Management or Marketing. Candidates must be comfortable in a very fast paced environment. You must have an interest in small businesses and the music industry.

National Editorial Assistant Internship

Performer Magazine is seeking a National Editorial Assistant for Fall/Winter Semester 2006.

Deadlines: Fall/Winter Semester 2006 = September 15th 2006
Number of Positions: 2
Salary: This is an unpaid position.

Duties: Assist the Editor In Chief with writing/compiling Music Gear Reviews, Music Industry News & Music Opportunities that are submitted to the magazine in the form of press releases, calendar listings, and through web resources.

Requirements: A min. of 6 hrs per week in Editorial Department (Somerville Office) (Max. of 40hrs/wk).

Qualifications: Strong Writing/Journalism background and familiarity with Chicago Style Manual, AP or equivalent. Music background preferred but not necessary. Acceptable candidate will be a strong writer who can meet deadlines and has a strong eye for detail.

National Production Department Internship


Performer Magazine is seeking a Production Assistant for Fall/Winter 2006 Semester.

Deadlines: Fall/Winter Semester 2006 = September 15th 2006
Number of Positions: 2
Pay: This is an unpaid position.

Duties: Assist the Production Manager in copyediting & layout of 3 monthly regional music publications (West Coast Performer Magazine, Southeast Performer Magazine, and Northeast Performer Magazine). Creating print and web ads for clients. The intern would also manage and expand our on-line presence (i.e. our website, MySpace accounts, and our musician’s webforums).

Requirements: A min. of 10 hrs per week in Production Department (Max. of 40hrs/wk).

Qualifications: Knowledge of Quark 6.5/7.0 and PhotoShop is A MUST! Knowledge of CS 2.0, Dreamweaver & Contribute is recommended. Strong Copy Editing background and familiarity with Chicago Style Manual or AP. Music background preferred but not necessary. Acceptable candidate can meet deadlines and has a strong eye for detail.

National Operations Internship

Performer Magazine is seeking an Operations Assistant for the Fall/Winter 2006.


Deadlines: Fall/Winter Semester 2006 = September 15th 2006
Number of Positions: 3
Salary: This is an unpaid position.

Duties: Assist Operations Manager in the operations of 3 magazines (in MA, CA, & GA). There are too many duties to include but here are a couple: bookkeeping, IT, HR, vender services, Magazine Distribution, client services, property management, ad copy, copy editing, web publishing. No two days are the same. No photocopying, going to the Post Office or getting coffee.

Requirements: A min. of 6 hrs per week in Operations Department (Somerville Office) (Max. of 40hrs/wk).

Qualifications: Current Undergraduates in Liberal Arts or Management. Comfortable in a very fast paced environment. Background in accounting and IT a plus but not a necessity. You must have an interest in small businesses and the music industry.

National News Assistant Internship

Performer Magazine is seeking a National News Assistant for Fall/Winter Semester 2006.

Deadlines: Fall/Winter Semester 2006 = September 15th 2006
Number of Positions: 2
Salary: This is an unpaid position.

Duties: Assist the Editor In Chief with developing sources, contributing ideas and writing articles for the news section of the magazine. This entails researching and writing music-related news shorts and features. Review and feature writing opportunities will made be available to interns depending on time and commitment. Your input on music coverage will be welcomed.

Requirements: Internships will last a minimum of three months. We require 10 hours per week — slightly more around mid-month deadlines. Office hours are 10-6, Monday-Friday.

Qualifications: Applicants must have 1-2 years of experience writing for a publication, and be able to handle the responsibility of firm deadlines. They must also be working toward a B.A. in Journalism, English or Communications. Preference will be given to those who have held editorial positions at a publication.

Duties: Assist Operations Manager in the IT operations of 3 offices (in MA, CA, & GA). There are too many duties to include: server admin (MAC O/S 10.4 Server), client services, desktop support & web site development. No photocopying, going to the Post Office or getting coffee.

Requirements: A min. of 6 hrs per week in IT Department (Somerville Office) (Max. of 40hrs/wk).

Qualifications: Current Undergraduates in Liberal Arts (Computer Admin or Computer Science). Knowledge of Macs & Dreamweaver a Must. Knowledge of Flash and Filemaker Pro a plus! Comfortable in a very fast paced environment. You must have an interest in small businesses and the music industry.
