Produced & recorded by Jon Nolan, Bernie Nye, Travis Kline, Kerry Ryan, Justin Maxwell and Kelsey Monroe at Milltown Recording Company in Rollingsford, NH The new Roy Davis album, We Are Lightning Bolt, takes the listener in and out of dark and gloomy shadows. Most of the album is slow and sparse, infused with contemplative lyrics and a dreamer's mentality. But before the record sets you into a blissful daze, the pace livens and a joyous light is seen at the end of the tunnel.

The fourth track, "Longer than the Boredom," is a good example of this. The song starts slow with two interplaying acoustic guitars and a distant, slow drum. The lyrics lament a lost relationship that lasted longer than the boredom and after the message is delivered, the lyrics disappear and the song picks up pace to a comfortably numbing melody.

We Are Lightning Bolt is everything we've come to expect from an indie folk album. The record bops back and forth between soulful indie dirges and louder, more comfortable pop tunes. It has personal music, thought-provoking lyrics and enough pop appeal for a great concert, but not enough fluff for radio. Roy Davis's new album might not stand out from the crowd of new age folk singers, but it does stand among the top. (Milltown Records)
