Greg and Carson Keller, the married dynamic duo know as La Chansons, have been self-releasing homemade recordings since 2005. King and Queen of the Dance Floor, however, marks their first full-length foray into the world of dance music. Recorded over a flurry of weekends, first in Nashville with Chris Grainger and then Atlanta with James Salter, this album is a party in a box. It's full of catchy melodies and infectious beats, and synthesizers whir and wail. The three songs recorded in Nashville were originally the band's demo, but were too tasty to be left off the LP. The album flows so smoothly, you'd never know.

There's a heavy '80s feel to this record, but with touches of the 21st century. For example, the vocal modulation in "Cinderella Tonight" adds such a sweet effect to the line "I can see the sparkle in your eyes when you see me under the starlight." It fills the song with a grand sense of expectation, reeling with the imagination of youth. We can all recall that one night with that special someone. Remember the butterflies in your stomach and the feeling that your life was going to change forever? It's there in this song.

"Beauty Queen" is another gem. It's a perfect embodiment of La Chansons' charm. It paints the picture so well that you can easily imagine Carson strutting around on the stage, with Greg as the master of ceremonies. In fact, you actually can see it. There's a video for the song on YouTube. Their fun-loving attitude is addictive. (Stickfigure Records)
