| At the push of play, Ben Fuller's dreamy indie-pop fills the room with an
atmosphere that competes with a bright supernova or the milky dreaminess of a
wintry moon. "Ashes" opens up Aquarian Son, a brilliant production of five songs
graced with beautiful melodies and creativity that bends the standards of
songwriter styles. Each track shimmers with lush, golden instrumentation, most
notably fervent percussion, heavenly acoustic guitars and chiming keys and
synths.
Fuller's voice is both appealing and enchanting in "Handsome Loser," a
crafty, spicy tune of heartbreak and defeat. "Oohs" and "yeh-yehs" are splashed
in between an anthemic chorus, heartfelt and strong enough to rock in big-city
arenas. Chilling and inviting, Fuller sparkles with witty songwriting chops on
guitar, as embellished in "Favorite Song." A gifted master of creativity, his
charm sugarcoats this entire listening experience, making Aquarian Son a
keepsake treasure worth many repeated listens.
While listening, one just can't get over a feeling of reassurance, as found
in the sounds and words of "Inside Out," a clear highlight. Again, Fuller uses
his profound presence of penning a simple melody of guitars and vocals, only
then to create a fully panoramic musical experience. These songs are heartfelt
and full of emotional pull and warmth, each orchestrated with a delightful array
of instrumental color and feel. Aquarian Son is for the noble musicians who need
a feel-good lift while making their own records. It's an album for music fans
who dare to dream - and dream big. It's for those who are bold enough to take
the risk and find adventure and happiness in life. (self-released)
