JJ's Bohemia

For owner John Shoemaker, the most important thing for a band who is booked or trying to get booked at JJ's Bohemia is hard work. "Hard work is rewarded," he says. "I like to see bands that are good and making a strong effort to get fans. I had a band from St. Louis show up at noon and go out around town all day, inviting people to come see them play. I paid for their bar tab and dinner that night, I was so impressed."

For out of town bands, Shoemaker recommends getting to know local bands to swap shows with. "Since you are from out-of-town, you'll need a good local band to play with and the best way to that is to show them some love in your backyard."

Also remember to be flexible; have a few dates as options. Send your information and dates to Shoemaker via the venue's MySpace page.

Rick's Guitar Room

Rick Mikel founded Rick's Guitar Room in 2007 after owning another store for 10 years. Having become more interested in vintage guitars, he decided this was the retail market he wanted to pursue, stocking equipment and offering repairs. The Room sells vintage amps as well as guitars, and constantly gets new inventory from makers like Fender, Gibson, Martin and Gretsch. Though the store is only open Tuesday through Saturday, other times are available by appointment, so call if you need assistance.
