As the only non-corporate sponsor of the Mission Hill Little League, this year JB&R teams up with The Scars, The Bluebloods, Nick and the Adversaries (fmr. Pilfers, Lost City Angels), and Matt Charettefor their annual fundraiser. Jason Bennett and his wife, Kristen (Madcat) have been raising funds for the MHLL since 1999. We’ve since been awarded sponsorship of “Team Resistance,” a city-wide team of 10-12 year olds.

Contributions from Narragansett Brewing Company, Flann O’Brien’s Pub, The Squealing Pig, The Crossing, Teenage Heart Records, and more will be raffled off to collect money for Little League champs ‘Team Resistance.’

About the Mission Hill Little League:

Mission Hill Little League is still one of the least expensive neighborhood youth baseball programs in the Boston area, for boys and girls, ages 7 to 12. We serve approximately 180-200 children each season. We are very lucky and appreciative of great support from local businesses and donors, who allow us to enroll players who may not otherwise be able to participate in more expensive sports programs.

Mission Hill Little League has been a chartered league with Little League International since 1953. Our league is run entirely by volunteers. Parents, local college students, and other young adults interested in helping out within the community coach the teams. Dedicated coaches stress teamwork and fair play, and help the development of life skills and parental involvement. Each team has a combination of parent and student, graduate student, or young professional volunteer coaches.

We have 12 teams total, 4 in each of the 3 divisions: Rookies, Minors and Majors. Rookies are the youngest kids, beginners, ages 7 to 9. Minors are older beginners or younger experienced players, who are still developing skills, and their ages range from 9-12. Majors are more experienced baseball players, ages 10-12, who have typically played baseball for a few years and are ready for play at a more competitive level.

Our geographical boundaries cover the following neighborhoods: Mission Hill, Jamaica Plan, South End and Lower Roxbury south of Mass Ave., Roxbury west of Washington Street and Walnut Ave. to Forest Hills, a small part of Brookline along the Jamaicaway and over to Boston University, and the Fenway / Kenmore neighborhoods. We are a very racially, culturally, linguistically, and socio-economically diverse league.

The majority of our players live in the Mission Main, Alice Taylor and Bromley Heath Public Housing Developments. We play at Kilillea Field, McLaughlin Playground at Parker Hill Avenue and Calumet Street, and at the Smith Street field located in Mission Main, weekday evenings and Saturdays, April through June. Many of the kids go on to play with summer teams, in tournaments sponsored by the City of Boston or within the local Little League District, such as the Jimmy Fund Fundraising Tournament.
