It’s a Thursday night in mid-September. The air is finally catching just a hint of crispness. You might be able to wear that adorable fitted jacket you crammed in the back of your closet… Well, you might be able to get away with it, if you’re not going to Atlanta’s hottest disco dance party, that is. Sorry, Darlin’ – Atlanta’s all-girl blog and promotions group, headed up by the lovely Sarah Mincher – has a Hot and Sticky night planned for you. Leave the long sleeves at home, ’cause it’s about to get sweaty.
Mincher and her glittery gang of hustlers have been throwing a Hot and Sticky party once a month since July of last year. Featuring burlesque performers, disco rappers, belly dancers, live electro bands, drag queens and DJs, the spectacle celebrates the hell out of girls in the Atlanta music scene and represents Mincher’s commitment to bringing talented women together. Every Sorry, Darlin’ event is of, by and for the girls. Boys can play, too, but they need be warned: if they don’t play nice, they might end up covered in glitter and unicorn stickers [editor’s note: what’s so bad about that?].
September’s Hot and Sticky event turned the thermostat up with Parris Von Broadus’ strip tease to “Why Don’t Ya Do Right?” (better known as “The Jessica Rabbit Song”). Then two local electropop divas – Love Megan T and NNXT – rocked partygoers’ socks, singing about how good girls wanna throw down, too and the dangers of drunk texting. But that’s not all! Every Hot and Sticky party features not only live musicians, but also a kickass DJ filling in the rest of the night. This time around it was the lovely Taradactyl, bringin’ the disco down on the whole room’s heads.
Hot and Sticky was born at Eastside Lounge. From there it moved down the street to The Basement, but, like its founder, this party is on the move. For details on next month’s stickiness, keep an eye on www.sorrydarlin.com. For booking, email Ms. Mincher at sorrydarlin@gmail.com.
