Nomadic Massive, Kahli Abdu, and DJ Nio TONIGHT at 92YTribeca

Co-Presented with Nomadic Wax

Montreal’s own Nomadic Massive has firmly established itself as a group of premier performers and skilled musicians representing an open-minded hip hop that finds its inspiration in the traditions of the past, combining live instrumentation, samples and a wide array of vocal styles. This multilingual, multicultural super-group has become synonymous with energetic and crowd-moving live shows. The group has also left its mark internationally, initiating socio-cultural exchanges with like-minded artists. Functioning somewhat as ambassadors, Nomadic continues to redefine what hip-hop can achieve on a global level. We are thrilled to present them, along with Nomadic Wax, for a very special show at 92YTribeca.

In 2005, Jos, Nigeria native Kahli Abdu had two choices—he could stay at home and continue his steady rise in the local hip-hop scene, or move to the US with his mother and siblings. Kahli chose to stay with his family, moving to a suburb of Washington, DC. Having just spent a year back home in Nigeria, Kahli has returned to the US promoting his recently released third mixtape, the Fela Kuti-inspired Ministry of Corruption. This project samples at least one Fela song in each track, and Kahli pays homage to the Afro Beat King with politically driven lyrics, rarely heard by rappers his age. This is nothing new to Kahli though, who is represented by TPSS Music out of Brooklyn, New York, and working on forming an Afro Beat ensemble to perform with when he moves to New York in the spring.
